About the Role

We are seeking a Data Engineering Manager to lead the development, growth, and performance of our Product Data Engineering team. This is a foundational leadership role that will be responsible for driving architectural excellence, cross-functional alignment, team growth, and technical execution for our evolving data platform. You will work closely with senior engineers, architects, product leaders, and stakeholders across the company to power our next generation of threat detection and compliance features.

This role is ideal for a hands-on leader who combines technical depth with a proven ability to build and mentor high-performing teams, foster engineering best practices, and deliver business-critical outcomes.

What You’ll Be Doing

You will lead a high-impact data engineering team, working closely with Principal Engineers to evaluate, scope, and guide the development of features that power our next-generation cybersecurity solutions. Your leadership will be instrumental in laying the architectural foundation for a new product offering, scaling our data platform and operationalizing advanced threat detection and compliance capabilities. You'll partner across Engineering, DevOps, and Product Management to ensure our data systems are not only performant and scalable, but also secure and audit-ready. Through your work, you’ll help define how data becomes a strategic asset in protecting our customers.

Technical Strategy & Execution

• Own the technical roadmap for Data Engineering in alignment with product, compliance, and operational goals.
• Guide the design, development, and optimization of scalable and secure data lakehouse solutions (Iceberg, Delta Lake, Hudi) and integrations with Snowflake, Databricks, or similar platforms.
• Oversee the architecture and performance of real-time and batch data pipelines (Spark, Kafka, Glue, Airflow) supporting AI/ML analytics, compliance monitoring, and product telemetry.

Team Leadership & Development

• Directly manage and grow a team of Data Engineers, including onboarding, coaching, career development, and performance reviews.
• Foster a collaborative and inclusive engineering culture with high standards for quality, security, and documentation.
• Promote technical mentoring, pair programming, and knowledge sharing across the engineering organization.

Program Management & Stakeholder Engagement

• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Security, and IT teams to define and prioritize data engineering deliverables.
• Support cross-functional initiatives such as compliance auditing (SOX, SOC 1/2), feature instrumentation, telemetry pipelines, and operational dashboards.
• Track and report on key metrics related to data availability, latency, security posture, and team velocity.

Governance & Compliance

• Ensure data governance, lineage, and retention policies are implemented across environments and maintained through CI/CD pipelines.
• Oversee compliance-driven data architecture reviews and support audit-readiness requirements, particularly in support of SOX, ISO 27001, and SOC 2 frameworks.
• Promote secure data processing and access practices across cloud environments (AWS preferred).

What You Bring

• 5+ years of experience in Data Engineering, with at least 2+ years in a people-management or tech lead role.
• Proven experience designing, building, and scaling cloud-based ETL/ELT pipelines and data lakes using tools like Apache Spark, Airflow, Glue, Kafka, and Snowflake.
• Deep hands-on familiarity with Python and cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred: EMR, S3, Lambda, Redshift).
• Experience implementing data privacy and compliance frameworks (SOX, SOC 1/2, GDPR), including securing sensitive information and managing audit artifacts.
• Strong understanding of data architecture best practices, including medallion/layered lakehouse designs, materialized views, and workload optimization.
• Excellent communication skills and stakeholder management experience; able to balance execution with strategic vision.
• Experience working in cybersecurity, threat analytics, compliance, or enterprise application monitoring is a strong plus.

Nice to have

• Experience leading or contributing to enterprise-grade SaaS products or security/compliance platforms.
• Familiarity with ML/AI pipelines, SageMaker, or integration of data platforms into real-time security analytics.
• Comfort operating in a fast-paced, globally distributed engineering organization.

Location: Onapsis is establishing a new development center in Bucharest. This is a hybrid role (1-2 days per week from the office), so candidates must be commutable to Bucharest.
